Say

Say to me it is futile to think so much and so long
Say to me walk the streets til you realize you’ve done nothing wrong
And the seasons roll by
And the people still cry
With a wandering eye
And speak
Of the worst that could be
Of the bad air they breathe
Of the times they conceived
It was futile to think

Say to me it is futile to think of a place in the sun
Say to me give it up, break it down, you know you are done
So we sing civil wrongs
As the road streams along
Through the lands that have longed
To be free
From the push of the beat
From the sting of the heat
From the throws of defeat
It was futile to think

Think of all we have done
Buying falsehoods with guns
Buying kings and witch hunts
A shake and a wink
It was futile to think

Say to me it is futile to think so much and so long
Say to me walk the streets til you realize you’ve done nothing wrong
Say to me it is futile to think of a place in the sun
Say to me give it up, break it down, you know you are done
Was it futile to think I was right all along
